Paintings by an unidentified "A. Doodson"
We were contacted in January 2011 by a nice lady in Cumbria regarding a couple of paintings, both signed "A. Doodson". We've not been able to work out which particular "A. Doodson" painted them, so does anyone out there recognise them? Send us an e-mail if you have any information - use the "Click here to e-mail us" link at the left.
UPDATE: Still no identification, but another painting is owned by Joe E. Here's his picture:
Here are the first two pictures:
Here's what we know about them from Hilary, who owns these fine pictures:
- Both oil on board paintings of the Lake District (one Derwentwater the other not sure).
- Rear backing board dated as being framed by the Co-operative Picture Framing Factory in Newcastle in 1935. There is another mark that looks like Wyn.
- The painting board itself is marked as having come from Winders, Great Moor Street, Bolton.
Unknown view, but seems likely to be in the Lake District.
Friars Crag, Derwentwater (Keswick) - painted from before the Crag
